How was the Dandelion Toolkit® created?
The mission of Dandelion Health is to make understanding a cancer diagnosis easier through using powerful visuals that empower patients and healthcare providers to foster shared decision-making and enable clear communication for all.
The Dandelion Toolkit is currently available for breast cancer discussions with two options: Stages 1-3, and Metastatic. More disease areas are in development.
The Dandelion Toolkit was created by healthcare designer Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont. Over 120 patients, oncologists, nurses, and patient navigators have been involved in its development. Together with the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance, and the Association of Community Cancer Clinics, the toolkit was tested with 25 clinics in the USA, Turkey, Mexico, and Australia. Pfizer, who is a member of the Alliance, kindly contributed medical expertise in vetting information for the Toolkit.
The goal of the Dandelion Toolkit is to enable shared decision-making and improve health equity by addressing literacy needs, emotional factors that interfere with knowledge transfer, and using inclusive design to communicate equally to a broad audience.
